As for getting to Siena from Florence, make sure you take the bus and not the train. It is a bit faster and goes directly into Siena. Take the Siena Rapida from the SITA bus station (very close to the Florence train station). They leave every hour at 10min after the hour. Have fun! - .TIP: from quiqueg
I can recommend you this family run restaurant south of Siena; it's called "da Vestro" and it's on the outskirts of Monticiano, near San Galgano Abbey, where you'll probably want to go. The restaurant has great cuisine and it's also a small hotel. see: www.davestro.it - .TIP: Hotel Tip from Cristina
The best place to stay in Siena is the Palazzo Ravizza www.palazzoravizza.it/ They have an amazing restaurant. Another great restaurant just repened under new management and is wonderful. I took a friend there and she and I had a pork carpaccio that was to die for. The restaurant is Guidoriccio and is right to the right of the town hall in Piazza del Campo. Via G. Siena is probably Italy's loveliest medieval city, and a trip worth making even if you are in Florence and Tuscany for just a few days. Siena's heart is its central piazza known as Il Campo and world-renown for its famous Palio, a festival and horse race that takes place on the piazza itself two times each summer (Movie audiences worldwide can see Siena and the Palio in the last James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace.)
