Times Square
Times Square is located where Broadway crosses 7th Avenue. The area called Times Square is located approximately between 42nd and 47th Streets, although there are signs celebrating the "New Times Square" for several blocks in every direction from there.
Times Square Visitor's Center
This is something new, I first saw it in April, 2000, but I am not sure how long it has been there.
It is a pretty good place to check out as it has counters for various organizations, such as the MTA, an information desk, a news stand, the various cruise lines with boat tours of the harbor, etc. You can get information about many aspects of visiting New York City, not just Times Square. They also have computers that you can use to access Yahoo, HotMail, etc.
In addition, there is a place there where you can buy tickets to Broadway Shows. I do not know at this time if they are full price or discounted.
TKTS
Located on 47th Street in Times Square (between 7th Avenue and Broadway) you can get discounted tickets to Broadway shows. However, there are some things you should know:
- They open at 3:00 PM (maybe earlier on the weekend and on days that there are early shows)
- There is a long line every day, but it moves pretty quickly once they open.
- Get there before 3:00 PM
- You can only get tickets to that days show
- These are tickets that they did not sell and are not the best seats; sometimes they may be obstructed views; but usually they are in the mezzanine or at the back of the theater
- There are selected shows that you can get tickets to. Many popular shows do not make their tickets available to TKTS.
- Some of the tickets are available at a 50% discount, some less than 50%
